College of Environment (COE) established on 1972 by the Iranian Department of Environment (DOE). As the first national centre for environmental education, COE offers formal graduate programs in the fields of environmental science and technology as well as informal courses through workshops, seminars, field trips, study tours and work based training.

Since 1990, COE has started to train a skilled workforce in the fields of environmental pollution control and prevention. Many of its graduates are absorbed as DOE staff, other governmental agencies, municipalities and industries.

Since March 2005, COE is run according to the system of procedures of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology under the supervision of a Board of Trustees.

Since March 2010, COE is hosting the Environment and Sustainable Development Research Centre (ESDRC), licensed by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology as an affiliated institute to DOE.

In 2010, COE has an enrolment of more than 700 fulltime students in the main campus located in the city of Karaj, the Capital city of the Alborz Province in neighbourhood of Tehran. COE is currently involved in several national, regional and international projects mainly focusing on environmental issues.

In 16000 square meters area, COE has 6 standard classrooms, 20 laboratories, 2 meeting/workshop rooms, language centre, computer lab, multifunctional conference room, central library, guest house, hostels, restaurant, coffee shop, swimming pool, gymnasium, mini football field, tennis field and some other educational and recreational facilities.

A new research centre and a sport complex is also under construction in the main campus.
